MisquotingMoses
The Problem of the Old Testament’s Words,
and Why It Matters
Claims of biblical inerrancy rest on the premise that Scripture’s original words were without error. But what, exactly, were those words?
Drawing on the historical, literary, textual, and linguistic formation of the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament, Misquoting Moses examines the long processes of composition, revision, and copying that stand between ancient traditions and the texts read today. Written by a Hebrew Bible scholar whose work grew from sustained engagement with evangelical institutions and inerrancy, the book asks whether conventional evangelical accounts can adequately describe the Old Testament as it actually developed and survives.
